Filipino’s are known to be conservative and traditional. They aren’t aggressive when it comes to courtship, sex, etc. But those were the days. This generation is more confident when it comes to meeting new people. They aren’t scared to try new things, and they’re always on the go. I made a comparison between the “old days” and the generation we are living in today.

Attraction- In the old days when a woman was attracted to a man she never made the first move because she will be considered aggressive, and women were supposed to be demure. The man should always make the first move because it represents his masculinity and how strong he is. But today when a woman is attracted to a man she can do the first move. Women can now make “ligaw” to a man because she doesn’t want to wait and it’s okay.

Courtship-During the old times when a man wanted to pursue a woman he made “harana”. Singing cheesy songs about how is very much dedicated to the girl. Another form of courtship was writing poems or love letters to each other stating how they adore each other. But today I observed that courtship is dying. I asked Mae if texting is the most popular form of courtship today. And she said Yes! I think it’s okay because this generation is fast-paced. But through texting couples can also break-up. So the medium of texting is dangerous.

Sex- I don’t really know how they did it back in the day. Haha. But now there’s a study that teenagers are sexually active. I think it’s fine as long as they use protection.

Marriage- Before the man was always the head of the household. He took care of the expenses and other things related to money. But today both have certain tasks on how they want to run their lives.
