I don’t really watch a lot of Filipino movies because most of it are trash films targeting the masses such as Enteng Kabisote. But once in a while the film industry of The Philippines produce movies that are brilliant and moving.
The movie Magnifico shows poverty in the Philippines. It revolves around Pikoy who is trying to build a coffin for his dying grandmother. The family surpasses a lot of unfortunate events regarding money, death and pure sadness. The twist of the story is unexpected, I thought the grandmother was going to die and the family will continue their life. But Magnifio was the one who died. It was ironic. That’s the reason why I liked the movie. Irony was well presented in the film. Mostly you see it in foreign films but not so much in Filipino films. According to the class the story’s message was “you’ll never know what you have till it’s gone”. People won’t really relate to this saying if they never experienced something being taken away from them. The aphorism is very true. We shouldn’t take things for granted even if you only have little things. You should be proud where you’re standing right now.

thats true. we all have to start appreciating what we have rather than sobbing over the things we do not have.
